Changes (The Road)

Changes Everybody goes by changes in their life. Some people may fix more drastic changes than others, but we all go with the same process. There can be change for the get and change for the bad. Change may also show us who we really are and why we are here. In the novel, The Road, by Cormac McCarthy, the son changes from a needy and naïve child into a brave, knowledgeable, and experienced young man. In the beginning of the novel, the son is a very needy child who relies on his grow to execute the decisions in order to survive. The son seems to ask a tidy sum of questions and cry when he experiences something that is either disturbing or upsetting. For example, by and by the man and the boy see human bodies [that were] sprawled in every attitude in a trailer, they decide to camp jut bulge out for the night and take it easy. (47) During their campout, a thunderstorm crack[led] and boom[ed] throughout the night. (47) The boy clung to [his dumbfound] in terror f rom everything that was going on. This moment proves that the boy was having a hard time coping with the fact that the world isnt the way it used to be. It is now a scary place, and he must get used to it.

As the novel continues, the boy becomes much braver and mentally experienced when it comes to surviving.
